The visual world of Alexander Basil is populated by a prototype, an alter ego of the artist born in Russia in 1997. We encounter him in a wide variety of aggregate states and everyday situations, always with a surreal-humorous twist. These paintings bear witness to self-reflection and self-realization – and to the discrepancy between self-perception and the perception by others.
On the occasion of Basil’s first solo exhibition with Galerie Judin, this first comprehensive publication is published, bringing together works from the last three years and an essay by art historian Sebastian Preuss.
